Description
Booth monitoring and studio reference work both demand headphones that sound accurate at any volume, and the beyerdynamic A1 exists to make that happen. Designed to comfortably drive high-impedance headphones, including beyerdynamic’s demanding 600 ohm premium line, it uses an intelligent-circuit design capable of handling frequencies up to 96 kHz – enough headroom to pass uncompressed audio straight from SA-CD or DVD Audio sources without losing detail.
Turn the large aluminium volume knob and you’re working through a high-grade ALPS potentiometer, chosen for its smooth, precise feel rather than just its looks. Inside, a generously sized toroidal transformer and carefully matched components keep the signal clean across the full frequency range, whatever headphone impedance you’re running. A dedicated impedance-matched output also keeps the volume control’s sweet spot usable with lower-impedance headphones, so you’re not stuck riding the knob at the extreme end.
One of the two line inputs is hardwired straight through to the line out, meaning your source keeps feeding downstream gear even while the A1 sits in standby – you only need to switch it on when you actually want headphone monitoring. A microprocessor-controlled relay handles switching between the two inputs silently, with no clicks or pops when powering up or down. Two blue LEDs show which input is active, and a multicolour LED reports the unit’s operating status at a glance.
