The HDJ-500 gives DJs an affordable way into Pioneer’s headphone lineup without skimping on the details that matter behind the decks. Borrowing styling cues and build philosophy from the flagship HDJ-2000, it’s built around a 40mm driver with a 19-micron diaphragm and copper clad aluminum wire voice coil, tuned to pull out low-end punch and midrange detail so kicks and snares stay easy to read while you’re matching tempo.
Two swappable cords make this pair genuinely dual-purpose. Pop in the coiled cable (1.2m, stretching to 3m) for club sets and cueing, or switch to the 1m straight cord with built-in mic and answer button when you want to use them away from the booth with a phone. That flexibility means one headphone that covers a mobile gig and the commute home.
On the ergonomics side, the right earpiece swivels up to 60 degrees for single-ear monitoring, and the headband keeps enough tension on the other cup to hold it in place while you cue. Urethane ear pads wrapped in leather add cushioning for long nights, and the magnesium alloy frame keeps the whole thing light enough to travel with while staying durable under regular use.
